Welcome everyone! Hope everyone had a good time at the workshop, and has had a chance to play with RoR on their own. I’ve finished the screencast for the social-networking/enterprise/start-up screen cast. Please feel free to either stream online, or download them to watch locally. I do warn you, the entire thing is just over 2 hours long, so if your going to do the marathon, make sure you have some coffee with you.
I’ve separated the files into 4 sections (Parts 1 -4 )
Please enjoy! And your feedback is appreciated.
To download the screencasts (m4v):
Or… you can stream them online!

Great plugin written by Daniel Morrison
Synopsis of why this applies…
I’m designing a simple webapp, writing with ruby on rails, for a workshop I’m doing with Spheric & ITS at UNB.
The theme of this workshop is “social networking with enterprise applications”. Standing issue, how can I take care of authentication for a webapp to be used on a company intranet….
Answer… well.. some google plugin searching… and stumbling upon Daniel Morrison’s RoR plugin.
So, for this workshop I actually don’t have a company network to work off of. I wanted to try this with gmail authentication… or … perhaps my UNB imap server.
Well this did the trick. I had to made some minor alternations however, as gmail is not yet accepting “LOGIN” authorization types, and my UNB response to an authentication returns something different… (or at least something different than to what Daniel Morrison’s had designed). So here it is:
The altered for Gmail authentication (imap_authenticatable.rb)

Note that the “login” variable was added. Nothing special, just made an if-else to make sure that login was successful.
Thanks Daniel!
